Hydrophobating Impregnations

Abperleffekt-kWater is a vital resource but causes also serious damages. In case moisture penetrates through walls, bricks or rendering it evokes problems. Building materials can be protected by hydrophobations. But only apt products guarantee the aimed at effectiveness. In collaboration with leading experts we worked out solutions for this problem.

To hydrophobate means to inhibit the capillary water flow. Mineral building materials like natural stones, bricks, renderings and concrete do absorb water by their nature. This water causes a diversity of problems. So frost damages might result from the infiltrated water. Moreover it brings salts as well as other pollutants into the building material.

In the presence of water, organic growth, like for example alga, lichen and funguses, is stimulated.

Besides, the water decreases the heat insulation of the exterior walls.

Modern hydrophobations are silanes. As silanes are liquids composed of very small molecules, they are absorbed by the capillary system of the building material. Thereby the building material is impregnated in-depth. Though the hydrophobation itself is indiscernible, the so treated building material gains such a high water-repellence that for example rainwater will not be able to penetrate even through the smallest cracks.
